The Wisconsin Benefit Specialist Program provides information, assistance, and representation to state residents age 60 and older. As people age they often need help from government benefit programs such as Medicare, Medical assistance, Social Security, SSI, Food Stamps, Community Options Program, and others. Accessing these programs can be difficult and confusing.

The Benefit Specialist Program can help!

The program is funded by the state and the federal "Older Americans Act." Benefit Specialists receive in-depth training and support from the Elder Law Center in Madison, Wisconsin to ensure high quality advocacy and assistance for older residents.

Confidentiality is Maintained

All correspondence and files are secure and your conversations with the Benefit Specialist will remain private. You may be asked to sign a release of information so the Benefit Specialist can inquire on your behalf.

Service are Free of Charge - to those aged 60 and older

There is no charge for Benefit Specialist services to those aged 60 and older; however, we do accept donations. Special arrangements can be made if you are homebound. Benefit Specialists are advocates, encouragers, and information suppliers to tho aged 60 and older.

Other Areas of Assistance

Complicated paperwork is often required with medical bills, insurance, disability, consumer issues, Homestead Credit, housing concerns, prescription drug plans, and nursing home questions.

Benefit Specialists can help with all entitlement programs as well as legal and consumer issues affecting older adults. Assistance can range from providing eligibility information and help in applying for entitlements to providing assistance for appealing denials and terminations.

LOCATIONS AND OFFICE HOURS

The Benefit Specialist office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm except on the days listed below for site visits at the meal sites.

Visits are held during the noon hour at:

Winter - on the third Thursday of every month.
Spider Lake - the second Monday of each month.
Hayward - the second Friday of the each month.
Stone Lake - the first Thursday of every month.
Exeland - the fourth Monday of each month.

ADRC (Aging and Disability Resource Center of the North)

Wednesdays from 8:00 to 4:00, the Benefit Specialist is at the ADRC office.
